SME is an organization for individuals, students, educators & companies involved in manufacturing.
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is a professional organization for individuals, students, educators and companies involved in all facets of manufacturing. Founded in 1932, SME is dedicated to advancing and educating the manufacturing industry. This is accomplished through a variety of tactics and outlets including events, media, membership, training and development, and an education foundation. SME focuses its efforts on several areas of manufacturing: aerospace and defense, energy, medical and motorized vehicles.
SME is the “solutions engine” that serves the manufacturing industry. We work daily to solve one of our industry’s greatest challenges – filling the gap with future generations of manufacturing practitioners whose passion exceeds our own.
Certification is just one way that SME addresses this challenge. Our certification programs are led by professionals within the manufacturing industry who guide the development and continuous improvement of the bodies of knowledge and competency models upon which the certifications are based. This close relationship makes SME certifications the industry standard.
Companies select us to assess and certify their workforce, increasing productivity and product quality. Education institutions and industry groups turn to us to augment their evaluation plans for accreditation, ensuring the workforce readiness of their students. Individuals choose us to validate knowledge, acquire industry-standard credentials, and advance their careers.
